A Calming Space to Foster Emotional Regulation

My Students

My students are the youngest learners in our district, ranging in age from 3 to 7 in grades PreK through 1st, and they bring an excitement for learning that keeps all of us smiling and striving to do more for them! This year they all had to bounce back from an unprecedented year after experiencing remote schooling or no schooling at all.

While they have demonstrated an inspirational amount of resiliency, our students are in critical need of additional support and tools to foster their social and emotional development, because so much of what they need in those areas was lost or missed.

My Project

My students are starting on the path to understanding and regulating their emotions. While these skills often take place in the classroom, young children frequently need an additional space to feel a sense of calm and peace when things become too overwhelming. This project would allow me to create this valuable space for them.

So many of our students have experienced trauma and adverse situations- providing them with a calming space would make a world of a difference for all of them and for their success and happiness at school.
