Help me give my students a calm area in the classroom which provides a safe space for a child to go to when they feel their emotions are running too high and they need to relax and refocus.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are wonderful, eager students who often deal with many emotions. A calm area in the classroom will provide a safe space for students to go to when they feel their emotions are high and need a little breather to regain control.
This calming space which has a rug, calming toys, sensory items and headphones for soothing music will help create a calming area for those who need a break.
This area will allow students to learn how to solve problems and self-regulate their emotions. These are very important life skills. Young children need to learn these skills now, so they can be successful in school and life. Without these skills they will struggle with both.
