This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students who have special needs and learning disabilities are enrolled in general education inclusive classes and are learning new things every day, sometimes at too fast of a speed for them, so they may experience challenging emotions.
Learning to self-regulate is an important piece of social-emotional learning, especially with special needs students, and this space communicates expectations within the classroom to self-regulate and rejoin the group in healthy ways.
My students will learn to build community within the classroom and respect and honor one another's emotions and feelings. Students can journal, draw, breathe, listen to calming music, and engage in other mindful activities while taking the time to de-escalate before rejoining classroom learning. This provides students the opportunity to regain composure and problem-solve.
