A Calmer Classroom: Sensory Tools for My Multi-Needs Learners

Help me give my students a floor rocker chair and other sensory supports that bring comfort and calm, so they can feel safe, focus better, and experience the joy of learning in my self-contained special education classroom.

My Project

I love my students for their incredible resilience, creativity, and the unique ways they experience the world. Each child in my multi-needs, self-contained special education classroom has their own strengths and challenges, and they inspire me every day with their determination to learn and grow. What makes them truly special is their courage to overcome sensory and emotional hurdles while sharing their unique personalities and talents.

With these tools, my students can better regulate their emotions and participate confidently and independently in the classroom.

Items like the floor rocker chair provide gentle movement that calms their nervous systems, while chewies and weighted bracelets offer soothing input that helps reduce anxiety and improve focus. Compression vests and other sensory supports create a comforting environment where students can feel safe and supported, allowing them to better engage in lessons and express themselves.

My goal for this project is to create a classroom environment that is functional, supportive, empowering, and promotes independence. By providing these tools, I want to help my students build the self-regulation skills they need to participate more fully in learning activities and develop confidence. Ultimately, these supports will enable my students to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
