My Project
My fifth-grade students are energetic, curious, and full of potential. But like all growing learners, they sometimes need a quiet, supportive space to step away, take a deep breath, and reset—especially when emotions run high or social challenges arise.
This project will help me create a Calm Down Corner in our classroom by providing a comfortable desk and chair dedicated to this purpose.
This area will be a safe, structured space where students can take short breaks from academics or peer interactions and work through big feelings in a healthy, respectful way.
With this simple addition, students will gain the opportunity to regulate their emotions and return to learning with a clear mind—helping protect not only their mental well-being but also valuable instructional time.
What We Need:
1 student desk (compact and cozy for a quiet space)
1 supportive chair (comfortable for short breaks and calming activities)
Why It Matters:
Many of my students face daily stressors both in and outside of school. By creating a calming space in our classroom, I can support their social-emotional growth while minimizing disruptions to their learning. This Calm Down Corner will serve as a powerful tool to help them build self-regulation skills they can carry with them for life.
