My Students
My students are energetic and enthusiastic learners. In sixth grade, students are able to take a stand-alone Social Studies class for the first time. They are excited to learn about the history of the world, engage in civics activities, and collaborate and learn from each other.
We are a neighborhood school serving a highly diverse student body.
We have students of all socioeconomic backgrounds, and our student body is diverse in terms of race, religion, gender identity, political ideology, and more. Some have lived in or were born in other parts of the world. Our school is a wonderful place to teach and learn.
My Project
My middle school students come to class full of excitement. They are eager to learn about the history of the world and they love to learn collaboratively. Our school building is very old and beautiful, but our classroom surfaces do not absorb sound. Soundproofing materials like carpeting are not available in our budget, but having some softer surfaces in our room could help us tremendously.
My students need sound absorbing materials to help them focus during class.
We do many group projects in Social Studies. We research together, create posters, hold debates, examine art and artifacts, and more. With each of these activities, the volume can get quite loud as students are talking to each other. Sound absorbing materials will mitigate the noise and help students, especially those who are more sensitive to sound, focus on learning.
