My Students
I am a teacher in a full immersion program with 26 English speaking kindergarten students full of life, curiosity, and joy for learning. French is the medium through which they are learning language arts, math, science, social studies, and health. No English is ever spoken by the teacher.
Imagine my students' little faces and eyes full of surprise when they meet me for the first time in September, looking at each other and wondering “what is she saying?” The benefits of learning a language at a young age are that by the time, my students leave elementary school, they speak French and English fluently in both an academic (and social )settings and beyond.
My Project
All our students need mental breaks at one point or another during the school day. Some of my students who have ADHD, anxiety, deficit attention as well as my students who don't have anxiety or ADHD will also benefit from having a corner in our classroom where they can go to relax, to recenter while nurturing their sense of creativity. We call it our calming corner!
With your donations, my students who are 9-10 years old will be engaged in cooperative learning activities to get to know each other not virtually but in person during the first weeks of school.
Throughout the school year, when they need a mental break they will have access to our calming corner where they can manipulate fidgets toys or do some yoga/mediation activities. All these activities and manipulatives will increase their attention on the instruction, nurture their abilities to work with others while growing academically, emotionally, and intellectually!
