My Students
Research suggests that the first 5 minutes a student spends in your classroom each morning will set the tone for the entire day of learning. If they come in and have a focused task, it is much easier for them to remain in that mindset of learning through the day.
I have 20-24 students in my class.
I have students with exceptional needs, gifted, and regular education students.
Differentiated instruction is key in my classroom. My school is a Title 1 school with over 800 students in our Pre-K- 5th grade building. Getting all those students through the breakfast line presented a challenge, so we get to have breakfast in our rooms. It presented it's own rewards and challenges. One, my kids needed to eat and this is the best way to get them fed and to class in a timely manner. On the other side, assigned partner tubs didn't work because some kids eat really fast and some take FOREVER. Not having assigned tubs lead to it's own chaos.
My Project
I started researching how to make my morning time productive, educational, differentiated, and independent. I found another teacher who created Rise and Shine binders. Students will be responsible for creating their own morning message and routine, built on their own independent level. Then when we meet for our morning carpet time, students will already have our morning message ready and prepared at their own pace. The binder will include a page for what day of the week it is, how many days of school, base ten block page, magnetic letters for sight words, list of sight words/word work. It is completely adaptable to each students needs. And the best part is, if I have classroom volunteers, they can grab the binder and work with the student on their own individual needs. Everything at their finger tips and inside the binder with it's zipper pencil pouch.
These supplies will make my morning routine well organized, less chaotic for all who enter, and my students independent.
Each student will get to work on what they need to master. Also, they can take the time they need to be ready for our morning meeting and not feel rushed, so hopefully, everyone will feel comfortable sharing and contributing to our morning routines.
