This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Right now, my art class at Kelvyn Park High School has a smart board that isn't very smart at all. It's old, it's barely functional, it's not very interactive, and, crucially, you can't even really see it. My room is all windows, which is GREAT for creating art — full of natural light for making colors pop and creativity flow — but means that, if I want to spend time projecting paintings from the great artists of history, showing process videos, or modeling art techniques for them, well, good luck seeing it in any great detail.

With a better, brighter, smarter smart board, I have a chance to demonstrate to young minds how artwork isn't just brushstrokes or hunks of ancient clay — it can be bright and vivid, just like their art.

With a top-of-the-line smart board like this, students won't just be staring at dull, dark images; they will be able to feel like it's tangible, right in front of them. Not to mention: I CAN DRAW ON IT. No more outdated ELMO that I have to change the HDMI for, no more "rough idea" on the whiteboard with chunky whiteboard markers: clean, smooth, and perfect for modeling!

Right now, displaying artwork and teaching art history in my classroom is (quite literally) a dim, dull practice. I can't wait to turn my classroom into a place where art can be as bold, bright, and dynamic as the people who created it — and as the young minds who will make the next great works of art.
