This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a first grade teacher in the Kensington section of Philadelphia. The children in my class come from very diverse backgrounds and many live in poverty. Most of my students can not afford even their basic school supplies. These are wonderful children who need to be given a chance to succeed!
My classroom is in an old building with many problems.
I try my best to make the class bright and cheery for my students, which can sometimes be a difficult task considering the condition of the school building.
These children need a positive environment and a safe place to come every day to enhance their chances of learning.
My Project
This large, colorful classroom rug will be a perfect place for our first grade class to start our day! First grade is a crucial time for children to learn to read and write! Having a special place to share stories and ideas will make this an even more enjoyable experience.
This carpet will allow the children to have a comfortable place where they have their own spot for listening to stories and sharing with friends.
The children will build upon these experiences to become readers and writers! Every morning will begin with Morning Meeting where our class gathers together on the rug to discuss our plans for the day as well as for children to share some of their ideas. This is also the place where stories will be read to the children, which is such an important part of learning to read. They can also read to each other during centers time, giving these youngsters an opportunity to move around the room without having to sit at their desk all day!
Your generous donation to help purchase this classroom rug will help to enhance the learning experience for these children at such a critical time in their education. Thank you for your support!
