A Breath of Fresh Air! Plants in the Classroom!

Help me give my students clean air in the classroom as well as a plant to take home!

My Project

Donating to this project will create an opportunity to learn about plants during class. Students in my class already benefit from our system of taking plant clippings, rooting them, potting them, and sending them home with them. This promotes clean air in both the classroom and the students' homes. The greenery also brightens the classroom and creates a focal point for students to look at and comment on.

One of the students' favorite things is clipping off "baby plants," as they will soon become.

When clippings are first collected and placed in water, we discuss nutrient cycles and how they are essential to new plant growth and development. We also explain that there are no nutrients in our ultra-clean and filtered drinking water. This fits the curriculum, interests students, and garners attention. Most importantly, in my opinion, it teaches life skills such as planting, growing, and keeping something alive. It also holds student interest in the long term as they continually check on their plants to see any root growth (we use a little bit of Miracle-Gro fertilizer to help things along).
