My Project
Books have a way of taking readers on adventures. Books also, allow readers to learn about people, places, things, and ideas. A great book can make fictional characters come to life by connecting with the reader on an emotional level. To learn to enjoy reading for the sake of reading, students must have access to a diverse set of books.
When students have access to stories that they can relate to and books that teach about cultures and places different from their own, they are able to learn to think critically and develop compassion and empathy for those who are different from them.
Having this project funded will help me diversify and create a classroom library that is inviting for all students. I will also be able to use the books to leverage lessons having to do with acceptance, perseverance, compassion, kindness, and determination.
