My students need a classroom library of grade-level books. I have chosen books by popular authors and interesting topics to develop a life-long love of reading!

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I learned to love books at an early age, and that was largely due to the fact that I had parents and teachers who provided me with books that I wanted to read. To this day, I love books and want to share that love of reading with my students.
I teach at a middle school in an impoverished neighborhood.
The students I teach don't have fancy clothes and technology, they don't go home to big fancy homes and they don't have their own personal library at home. What these students DO have is a desire to learn, a respect for education, and a dream to make something of their lives so that they can have a bright future free of the struggles that they currently know. Reading, and developing a love of books will improve their academic success in every subject. I want my students to WANT to pick up a book, not see it as a chore or punishment.
My Project
Having a library full of high-interest, grade-level books will allow students to never have an excuse to be without a book. Because of the neighborhood they live in, many do not feel safe going to the local library, and with the set of classroom books, they will never have to worry about that. My hope is that they will be exposed to a variety of books and find one that interests them. In turn, they will develop a love for books and a passion for reading.
Thank you for viewing my project, your donation would make such a difference in the lives of so many hard-working, dedicated 6th graders.
Stephen King said, "Books are the perfect entertainment: no commercials, no batteries, hours of enjoyment for each dollar spent." I want my students to see just how books and reading can change their lives!!
