Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are discovering their love for reading. Every morning we meet in the library to start our day.
My students are in 4th grade in Chicago Public Schools.
They are low-income, bilingual and children of immigrants. They (and I) are lucky to be at a school that is committed to fostering a love for reading. We teach our students to love learning and to serve others.
My Project
My students need a mobile book storage cart because our library is growing! My students will use this rolling book cart to share books with each other. They will place their book recommendations on the cart and then give "book blessings" about these books to inspire their classmates to read them. Students will also know where to look for certain books when we are studying a certain topic like extreme weather---which we are about to start!
This addition to the classroom will empower my students as they become readers.
My students read in both Spanish and English and, for many, reading is hard. This library tool will allow students to share books with each other.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
