My students need wobble chairs to help them focus in class. Many of them are very wiggly and these chairs will help them move while they work without disturbing others.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
You walk into my 2nd grade classroom and you see a room full of eager, enthusiastic students; working independently and in groups. I know they are hungry for knowledge, I can see it in their faces, but they really have a difficult time sitting still.
My students are 6 and 7 year old second graders.
They are an enthusiastic bunch who love to learn and have fun. I have a collage of high performing and struggling students; students of different ethnicity's, students who speak more than one language and students who love to move.
Our school is a Title I school, so we serve many socio-economically disadvantaged children. The majority of our students receive free or reduced lunch and many of them have little or no support at home.
My Project
Students will be using the Wobble chairs in place of traditional chairs. The fact that they will be participating in movement, even though minimal, more oxygen will be supplied to their brains consequently leading to better focus. Based on Dr. John Medina's findings, students acquire knowledge while in constant movement. These chairs will provide them with the constant movement they need while providing them with the opportunity to learn and retain more information because they will be more focused.
My students will gain more knowledge and learn better because they will be more focused.
These chairs will help to create a more calming classroom environment, not just for my students who have a difficult time sitting still, but for the students around them that are affected by their constant movement.
