My students need a digital microscope, slides, and bacteria growing kits, as well as colored pencils for recording their observations, and activities to apply learning.
"In essence, science is a perpetual search for an intelligent and integrated comprehension of the world we live in." Cornelius Bernardus Van Neil (1897-1985) U. S. microbiologist.
The students at my school come from a very low socioeconomic background.
The majority of the students at our school are on free lunch and live at or below the poverty line. These students come to us with limited background knowledge and very little parental support from home.
My Project
A digital microscope along with the prepared slides will provide my students with the opportunity to look beyond what they normally see. In conjunction with the projector I have in my classroom it would also provide a way for all of the students to take an up close and personal look at something at the same time. Being able to prepare and observe their own slides will fully engage students and allow them to take ownership of their learning.
What better way for student to look at the world around them than through a microscope?
What better way to understand the building blocks of our world than to see them first hand? The supplies I have available are limited, and I'm looking for a better way.
