My Project

Our third grade team would like to incorporate science, social studies, and math into one on-going project centered around various plants that grow in Georgia. Why? In third grade science, students must differentiate between plants found within Georgia’s geographic regions. They must also collect information and create records of sources and effects of pollution on the plants. In third grade math, students must also generate measurement data by measuring lengths using rulers marked with halves and fourths of an inch. Students can take the information that they have gathered and create a graph to show the difference in height of the native plants of Georgia. All of this can be accomplished with a simple plant project!

We would like for our students to grow various plants that are native to their home-state of Georgia.

Students will learn how to properly plant the seeds and how to take care of them as they mature. We will also grow a set of plants to use as testing variables so that we can record the effects of pollution that we create. Of course, students will measure the plants as they grow. When we are finished with our study of the plants, students can cake them home to replant.

The items listed in the project will be distributed among the third grade teachers so that each class can have a similar small gardening experience. We are certain that our little future gardeners are going to love this project!
