My Students
I teach at an elementary school in the heart of "Cajun Country" where we encourage students to become active learners and accountable for their academic success. We are a French Immersion school which is also Title 1. Our students come from diverse backgrounds but all share a common goal to make our school go from "good to great." My first graders arrive each year ready to learn how to read and my focus is not just to teach them how to read but to become "readers."
My Project
With the personal portable CD players with CD/DVD cases, my students will be able to be mobile for when it is their turn to visit the Listening Station. My little readers will be able to listen to stories and read along to a story of their choice, which allows for individuality in choosing a story. My students will be able to go to any spot in the classroom since they are portable. With limited space for a designated station or center, this will be ideal for management purposes. Listening and reading along to stories help foster independent reading, which enriches their overall growth as emerging readers.
