I can remember sitting with my mom and learning my alphabet when I was 4 years old. Many of my 1st graders are still struggling with identifying the letters of the alphabet.
My students rock!
Waiting for them to get off their buses in the morning is the highlight of my day. They are full of energy, and are very busy little people. They are in a self-contained classroom for students with Emotional/Behavioral disabilities. They have seen more in their short years than I have in my entire life.
My Project
My students all come from low-economical backgrounds, and many do not come to school with the pre-academic skills they need. My school district is cutting back on funding, and as a result each classroom is getting less money. Many of my students are 2 or more grade levels behind. My first graders are still working on pre-academic skills. My students need an Alphabet Read-Along literacy library in order to help them learn the alphabet and learn to read. I do not have access to materials like this at my school, with this program I will be able to help my students grasp their A,B,C's and become the readers that I know they can be!
Many of my students struggle with learning their letters.
They get very frustrated when asked a letter or a word if they do not know the answer. I work very hard to help them catch up with their peers, so that they are able to handle their frustration and be successful in the general education classrooms!
