This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are energetic, growing kids who have yet to be given the opportunity to see the beauty of math that can be found in every day things. My students are a social and active group that enjoys engaging activities that they can participate in with one another and share their ideas and experiences with each other. They are open to learning of all types of modalities - especially kinesthetic. With donations that stretch their minds, you could change their futures.

My Project

We, as math teachers, have done a disservice to our students in that we have trained them to believe that mathematics is simply "number-crunching". This could not be further from the truth. Please google such branches of mathematics as Game Theory, Knot Theory, Graph Theory, Cryptography, Logic, Topology, etc.

My goal is to challenge my students' perception of mathematics by introducing them to the topology.

These mind-bender puzzles are a great way to "hook" my students to my topology task which later delves into Knot Theory.

This is one of the activities that made me fall in love with math and I wish for my students to go through a similar experience.
