This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
In the age of technology and social media, engaging students in class can be a challenge. However, science and Yearbook offer students an opportunity to engage in hands-on experiential learning! Cameras, SD cards and headphones for editing give my students the opportunity to practice composition & design while attending sporting events & supporting their peers. Earth Science Anchor charts and plants help to supplement our curriculum resources in class.
While we are fortunate to have many hands-on resources provided by our district, our students lack funding for Positive Behavior Incentive Systems (PBIS).
As a middle school teacher, being able to reward students for supporting/coaching their peers, electively turning in their cell phone for the period, or taking a risk by sharing their work in class boosts motivation & engagement. Small snacks & fidgets are perfect incentives to motivate this positive behavior and funding them through Donors Choose reduces the amount of money teachers are spending out of class to provide students with such rewards.
