it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian (2007) by Sherman Alexie will be perfect to help encourage our multi lingual learners to engage in reading by being inspired by an accessible and relatable narrative voice. The level of reading is rigorous yet not too challenging. Our students respond so beautifully to reading stories that are relatable and tied culturally to their own backgrounds and heritage. Having three class sets of this text will allow our 11th grade students who are part of the IB program to read a highly interesting and layered author from the IB prescribed reading list, preparing them beautifully for nuanced academic conversations that will serve them well throughout school and their professional careers.
