My Students
A typical day in my classroom involves a number of different activities. Throughout our day we do a variety of differentiated reading projects and work in leveled groups to accommodate the needs of each student. I like to provide as much variety as I can to keep my students' interests high.
My middle school students are amazing!
They live in a community on the south side of Chicago. My students have a wide range of disabilities and their individual ability varies from student to student. Because of this, their reading levels range from a preschool level all the way to a 5th grade level. Some of them are very reluctant readers and shy away from reading because they do not want to be embarrassed or look a certain way in front of their peers. I believe that each one of my students has their own strengths and can do whatever they set their mind to!
My Project
These headphones are incredibly important to my students success. These headphones will help them with listening comprehension, as well as reading comprehension skills. Headphones will allow my students to work in leveled groups and listen to a variety of reading passages that are appropriate for their independent reading level. These headphones will also allow them to utilize individualized reading programs, like Lexia Learning, that is specifically designed around individual learning needs. Headphones will give my students who are lower level readers the opportunity to practice at their own pace without worrying that they are not "as good" as everyone else. Overall, my hope is to provide my students with headphones that will support the differentiation of reading lessons and give them the confidence they need to increase their reading skills!
Having this project funded will make a difference in my students' lives because it will give me the ability to address their individual needs on a one-on-one basis.
These headphones will allow them to work at their own pace free from embarrassment of working slower or at a lower level. Having access to headphones will truly help my students on an everyday basis.
