7th Grade Snack Attack: Get Fueled for Math Learning

Help me give my students snacks to help manage their hunger, boost nutrition, keep them active and motivated while they have fun with math learning.

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Wallace Simms's classroom raised $361

My Project

I currently teach middle school math a total of 112 students at the 7th grade level. The school is a Title One school where 100% of the students are provided free breakfast, lunch and supper. Although students are provided breakfast, not all students are able to arrive early enough so they will sometimes need a snack to boost their energy and keep them focused on class. Math is an essential subject where students learn to reason and become a part of their everyday life. Thus, providing the students snacks can keep them fueled, keep their brains active and motivate them to learn math.

The fruit snacks are a nutritious part of this project.

Cheez-it crackers are a good source of carbohydrates which provide immediate energy to the body. Energy is essential for students because it is important that they are energized while learning math skills. This healthy snack helps manage kids' hunger and boost their nutrition. These will keep them from getting so hungry that they get cranky. Some of the students are picky eaters, so these snacks are a chance to add more nutrients to their diets.

The apple juice is a great source of nutrition for the brain. According to a study carried out by Saber Health Group, it was proven that apple juice protects the brain’s neurotransmitters, which are nerve cells that transmit messages to other cells in the body. Finally, and very important are the pencils in this project. I added the pencils because without tools, it is difficult to get work done. The pencils selected are very good quality and over the years I have used this brand with students. It is important that the pencil is durable and will be able to last students for a good time. This will prevent overspending.
