7th Grade Physics Derby Challenge

Help me give my students a fun, hands-on, understanding of the transfer of potential energy to kinetic energy

My Project

It is often difficult to visualize physics and the relationship of potential and kinetic energy. The students will work with other classmates and partnering with the students in our resource room to create an inclusive competitive team. The team will design and build a pinewood derby car. They will have to calculate the estimated speed of the car, the transfer of potential to kinetic energy and the possible friction losses. Including students from our resource room in a school wide competition will help the students integrate with the regular education students.
