My Students
Our students love music. Music gives them an overall vitality and enthusiasm for life and provides them with a deep sense of accomplishment and self-worth. They learn to work cooperatively with their peers, focus on instruction and most of all, experience the joy of making music.
Our school is located in a low-income urban neighborhood.
The school is an important part of the community and families depend on us for a high quality, well-rounded education for their children. We want to give our students the chance to study music.
My Project
We need two violins. The fulfillment of this project will provide students with good quality violins. Students take better care of instruments when they know it is their "own" to use for their entire middle school education from 6th through 8th grade. When they have their own instrument they view the program more seriously and are more likely to take the instrument home to practice. They feel special and this gives them greater self-esteem.
Students who study music learn the joy of music first-hand through concert performance and they learn to work cooperatively with their peers.
They also learn to focus and take direction, problem-solve and develop good study habits. Students derive great personal satisfaction from the study of music by opening up their creative abilities.
