Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I'm so lucky to have a class of amazing and inquisitive 5th graders. It makes me so happy to come in each day and watch them question things and grow as learners. In particular, this is not a class that I will soon forget. I am hoping that this upcoming school year will let us remain in person and have as much stability as possible. Many of my students have parents and guardians who are frontline workers so our school has been disproportionately affected by shutdowns and quarantine in the past. Despite that, they carry on with positive attitudes.

My Project

I am very excited about this project. The pandemic has been hard on us all. Prior to it, I did not have many "fun" materials for my classroom as it had been a long time since I taught elementary. I want to give my kids the opportunity to work and create things using their hands and physical materials.

The materials I have requested for this project will let kids learn through play as they make their own creations with Lego, try to solve logic puzzles through tangrams, or create their own tesselations with pattern blocks.
