Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I will be teaching about 30 5th graders in a Title 1 school in North Philadelphia. Our neighborhood is a high crime and low income area and it is a challenge for our students to purchase the school supplies that they need to succeed in school. Sometimes they can't complete their homework because they didn't have a pencil.
They still manage to come to school eager to learn everyday.
They are so intelligent and creative and deserve the best education available.
My Project
My 5th graders need to have a leveled reading library. This is my first year teaching 5th grade and I have few books at their reading level. They will be reading books from our leveled library during our Literacy block. They will be reading these books and then write a book report based on the stories that they read.
I am also requesting a Learn & Store Chart Stand for when we have Guided Reading.
This cart will be used to store our leveled library books. The students will also use the board to write the answers to questions about their story books.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
