5th Grade Read Alouds: What a Novel Idea

Help me give my students the chance to follow along in their own copy as I read out loud, expose them to excellent children's literature, and expand their vocabulary.

My Students

The students at my school come from all walks of life. They have families who love them and want them to be happy and healthy. Our kids face challenges each day, but they do it with a smile. My school is a Title 1 school with a 100% free and reduced lunch rate. We have lots of support from our community but some ideas are just too big for our small town to handle.

We are a school but feel more like a family.

We all work together to do what's best for our kids!

My Project

With these novels I'll be able to read aloud to my class all year. I'll be able to model fluency and show them what smooth reading sounds like. We'll be able to use the novels to explore main idea, theme, figurative language... all SORTS of things can be taught with novels.

All kids, no matter their background, deserve access to good books.

My kids, even though they're 5th graders, love to be read to. They enjoy sitting in a group with me while I read to them and we have a chance to discuss all types of things. Some of the best discussions we've had have come from something we've read.
