My Students
The importance of math isn't often realized by fifth graders. We hope to create a meaningful experiences through the creation of their own everyday math book. But we first need a variety of math story books to inspire and ignite their creativity!
The students are an enthusiastic group of fifth graders who are currently struggling with math.
They attend an urban public school in Ohio. We currently have a small classroom library with a some math story books. We are in need of more story books at the 5th grade level to challenge all readers in our classroom. We are hoping this math, reading and art project will help create positive experiences for the students.
My Project
Having a classroom library is difficult to accomplish. But having subject specific collection of leveled books for a specific project seems impossible! Please help us fill our shelf with these books so the students will be able to read and borrow these books when completing this Math/Reading/Art cross curricular project. These are great books that will be able to be used by future classes in this school for years to come. Some of the books requested include: Amanda Bean's Amazing Dream A Mathematical Story, The Great Number Rumble, and A Very Improbable Story A Math Adventure.
Learning to like a subject that you struggle with isn't something that comes easy.
We are hoping to link something they love (reading picture/story books and creating visual art) with something they struggle with (math) to help them learn to Love math. Please help us to make this project possible by providing these books and supplies for our classroom!
