Remember the days when all you needed for school was books, paper and pencils? This is no longer the case these days. Most of today's curriculum has a technology component. We need a laptop, two printers and several flash drives so we can access all the components of the curriculum.
I am a 5th grade teacher with a diverse group of students.
They speak many different languages. Although they are all different, they all have a great desire to learn.
Our public school is small and has a diverse student population. Our multicultural atmosphere is wonderful for learning, and we are a California Distinguished School, recognized for outstanding achievement in education. My students enjoy learning and are very curious, eager and motivated. I am certain that with the addition of new technology, my students will soar!
My Project
My classroom is extremely diverse, comprised of highly gifted students and English Language Learners. Being able to differentiate my instruction often depends on technology to support those in need and to provide further engagement and challenge to others. Our curriculum includes technology components and, at the moment, we only have 3 working computers. It is extremely difficult to have 35 students huddle up around 3 computers. Additionally, in order to enrich the current curriculum, I embed project-based learning. Many of these projects require Internet research and word processing capabilities, as well as access to a printer. Since all students select different topics, oftentimes the research must be done individually. The use of a laptop, printers and flash drives would greatly relieve this challenge.
Please help my students have access to updated technology in our classroom, as it is a vital tool in today's world.
