Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As a math and science teacher, I want to utilize technology in my classroom that will excite students. I plan to use a 3-D printer with my students in order to engage their attention and help connect their interests with the classroom. With the addition of this printer to my class, students will be introduced to the 3-D printing process as they learn to choose a design, upload the image as a file, and watch as the printer creates a real handheld object from something that was once just on a screen. I know my students will be thrilled to be involved in this process!
As an incentive, students who have demonstrated hard work and responsibility will be allowed the opportunity to work first-hand with the 3-D printing process.
My goal is to give all of my students an exciting classroom environment that will maximize their learning. Through hard work in class, students will be rewarded with points toward being able to use the printer in class. A 3-D printer is a wonderful classroom incentive as it serves a variety of interests since students can choose to print an object or toy of their liking, while it also introduces them to a technological tool that could very well be a big part of their futures.
School shouldn’t feel like a chore for students to complete day in and day out. When students learn, their wonder, curiosity, imagination, and excitement should be sparked! I hope to facilitate that kind of environment in my classroom. I want students to excel in their studies and also get their creative juices flowing - that’s where the magic happens.
