Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am requesting additional items in a continued project that I received a few weeks ago. I realized that I need a class set of headphones so that all of my students feel recognized and supported in their pursuit of educational excellence. The students recently requested Skin Colored Pencils to accurately depict their skin colors and I need a new pencil sharpener dedicated to Colored pencils because my last one recently died a slow, overworked death.
Headphones are an essential part of their academic practice for a multitude of assignments as well as the SBAC state testing; we spend many hours a week navigating research projects, listening to novels, and supporting our language development with Language Arts programs all assigned through our Chromebooks and require reliable headphones.
We have never had those in this classroom, nor have any of my students prior to the project. The Skin Colored pencils allow my students to feel secure in choosing appropriate skin colors in self-portraits that we do several times a year and it has literally changed the entire project, but they are in 5th grade and feel crayons don't always allow for the detail they are wanting to express.
These resources will inspire and support my students in achieving the best they can give to themselves and this classroom. I truly believe these tools are going to make our academic success grow and strengthen.
