Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are energetic, enthusiastic, and hardworking. They come from a low socioeconomic area of New York, and they never allow their circumstances to dictate how their days should go despite how most of their days start. This year I work with a group of students that need exposure to a more rigorous curriculum.

All of my students' access to meet the grade requirements started off shaky, but they are making gains every day.

Through project based work, they will have every opportunity to meet and exceed the requirements.

My Project

These books will help me build a robust library for my readers. We are currently facing budget cuts and providing my students with a library they want to read from has becoming increasingly difficult. I have been funding my library out of my own resources and the students are enjoying the new reading materials and have developed a love for reading. Increasing student choice in reading allows for them to own their reading experiences and read daily. With this library I am hoping my students development a love and lifelong passion for reading. These books are of high interest to my students and having them will allow my students to read more and share their reading with their peers and family. My classroom library is very limited with them reading most of my current selection.
