4th Graders Need Science Experiment Resources

My students need a science tools supply center which includes graduated cylinders, student microscopes, compasses, magnets, thermometers, measuring tapes, and hand lenses.

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Bencic's classroom raised $266

This project is fully funded

Hi! After my 4th grade class has struggled to bring up reading skills for the past few years, they are now much better readers. All of our hard work has paid off--our reading scores have raised dramatically (yes, I'm so proud!). However, after looking at my students' scores in science, I was shocked to see that science is now the major area of concern. We have spent so much time reading--and our science scores have suffered! I've got to work hard to get my students more involved in science because they are falling behind! Even worse is the fact that some of my girls find science boring; this has to change! Research (and personal experience) shows that the best way to get kids interested is to actively involved them. I've already begun my plan, but I really need some resources to help them make hands-on discoveries.

Our school doesn't have the funds to purchase science supplies--we don't even have a computer lab. This isn't surprising considering how small our school is, but our students deserve (and need) the opportunity to use neat science resources like thermometers and compasses. Some of my students have never used instruments such as these (yes, it's difficult to believe)! I want to make science class a time that my students anticipate, and this supply center that's packed full of resources should do the trick.

Lakeshore's Science Tools Supply Center has 12 of the following: graduated cylinders, bar magnets, horseshoe magnets, student microscopes, thermometers, compasses, tape measures, and hand lenses. It also comes with various slides that will be used with the student microscopes. I can't tell you how many lessons that can be created with this set! Plus it will last for years, so future classes will benefit from its use.

So here's where you can help me make this happen. Your donation will give my students the opportunity and tools to gather facts, observe specimens, and make hands-on discoveries right in my classroom! Some of the tools will also be helpful in many of my math lessons, too. Science is so important, but according to my students' scores, their understanding of it needs to improve. To be honest, the scores aren't the most important aspect of science to me...I simply want to get them involved and excited about science. I want them to learn and love it! You can help me do this! Thanks for your consideration.
