Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Some students never get to experience science. They have science classes and worksheets, but actual science (questions, tinkering, experiments) they never get. My students lack interactive resources that allow them to 'do science.'

Our mid sized elementary school is in an urban district of Southern California.

We are a Title I school, the majority of the students receive free or reduced lunches. Most students live very close to the school. Every child is unique, and my students are not exceptions. Some students enter my class fully prepared for the rigor of school, while other students come in needing help to catch up. All my students benefit from repeated and frequent exposure to engaging material.

My Project

Each set of littleBits is full of self discovery. Each of the modules fits into the littleBits modular system for infinite combos of audio, visual and sensory experiences. Students will be allowed to explore the modules on their own, learning how to create using only their imagination and collaboration. These modules contain all the basic components of a traditional analog synthesizer. The kit is flexible/powerful enough for professionals but it's also intuitive enough for a novice to pick up and begin to understand how a synthesizer works. In addition to being an open ended project, littleBits is open source. Students can research projects on littleBits' site for ways to use the kit and combine it with other equipment.

I'm preparing my 4th graders to succeed so they will have the opportunity to attend college.

In order to be prepared and compete with their peers they benefit from the free use of hands on resources in their learning. Becoming comfortable with open ended projects is essential. outlook necessary for going deeper in science. Most of them don't have these experience often so I want to provide them with whatever I can at school. Your support is greatly needed and appreciated
