This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are a diverse population of enthusiastic dual language learners who care about social issues and about all their classmates being treated equally and feeling included in our learning environment. My students have been in a Dual Language program for most of their educational experience at our Title 1 school in Brooklyn.
Thanks to that, my students have developed very positive attitudes about other languages and cultural backgrounds as well as toward themselves as learners.
Over the years, they have become more self-confident and better prepared to engage in a global society that values multiculturalism and multilingualism.
My fourth graders always enjoy learning new things, and like meeting and interacting with children and grown-ups from different linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
My Project
My students need books that will provide the information about the different topics in Social Studies or Science necessary to write authentic writing. The donations to this project will help to improve my students' understanding of and competency in authentic, meaningful writing. By implementing a thematic Writer's Workshop model, my students will begin to see themselves as true authors and illustrators. We will use these materials to aide us in the process of becoming life-long writers and researchers. As the Dual Language teacher, I will guide them through their reading, research, and writing. In my 6th year of teaching fourth grade I am able to educate them about our historical topics through my knowledge, yet I truly need your support to make this a reality. Thanks!
