This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I love that my students are so passionate about soccer and sports in general. However, my students do not have the proper equipment to play soccer accordingly.

According to data collected through our school’s behavior incident report, many issues come from soccer-related injuries during recess time.

Our class decided to analyze this data and brainstorm ideas to solve issues. My goal for this project is to provide my students with the proper equipment to minimize injuries and conflicts due to disputes.

My students are unique because they are a part of the Spanish dual immersion program at Schafer Park Elementary School. 80% of students are Hispanic, and 77% qualify for free and reduced lunch. There is also an increase in the number of students who are newcomers from different Latin American countries such as Colombia, Nicaragua, El Salvador, and Mexico. Most of these newcomer students build relationships through soccer. It is one of the main ways they feel included and accepted by their peers.

By providing students with the proper equipment, like the All-Purpose Folding Goal, it will eliminate conflicts and allow students to enjoy the sport. This equipment will also allow teachers to come up with social-emotional learning lessons on conflict resolution. Overall, my students will most likely continue to pursue a lifelong love for sports in the future.
