This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

It is essential that the classroom feel like a place where students are safe and welcomed. The past two years have brought many unforeseen challenges to students. The pandemic has had an immense impact on student's mental health and social emotional development. In order for students to develop the emotional tools they need to be successful in life, these skills must be explicitly taught in school and at home. Social-emotional competencies such as self-awareness, self-management, responsible decision making, social awareness, and relationship skills are vital to leading a happy and fulfilling life both inside the classroom and beyond.

My goal for this project is to create a safe, calming space in the classroom where students can learn to handle stress and anxiety, name their emotions, manage overwhelming feelings, and make responsible decisions.

This will be a space that students can go to take deep calming breaths, use sensory fidget tools, and focus on their own mental wellness.

Thank you for helping make my classroom a place where students can prioritize their social-emotional needs needs and learn to manage their emotions.
