My Project
My 4th graders are a pile of puppy dogs. I am the most fortunate and grateful teacher on earth to be blessed with their daily presence. We live and play near Grand Canyon National Park. Elk and javelina play on our school fields after hours. Millions of people visit our town without realizing we're here getting a one-of-a-kind education too.
We are living a dream, but sometimes our classroom doesn't have everything it needs to help us thrive.
The items I have chosen for my classroom are largely planned for increasing the welcoming and fruitful learning atmosphere. Our students come from disadvantaged homes - a classroom brimming with light, educational play, safe cozy spaces, and community resources for their use will increase engagement, attendance, and overall feelings of peace and safety for my little baby birds. As children of the service industry and the COVID generation, they’ve had unfortunately limited exposure to aspects that other communities take for granted in their classrooms. Clipboards and floor pillows will allow us to work and collaborate in non traditional flexible seating situations, such as in our class library or the outdoor classroom. Board games will be useful for developing social skills and staying engaged during rainy or snowy recess days. Decor items will help our classroom feel like home. Resources provided by donors will save our parents from having to purchase them, especially our perennial endangered species: white board markers!
