Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I teach in a public Title I school and these materials will be used to create a Calming Station in our 4th grade classroom to help students refocus and calm their bodies when their emotions get too big. When students become dysregulated they are not only unable to learn but typically disrupt the learning of their peers. With the right tools and materials paired with strategies we learn in the classroom, students will have the resources to process their feelings in a productive and safe way as well as work to proactively meet students' needs.
The goal of this project is to give students the skills to self-regulate, a skill they can take with them beyond the classroom, with the Cozy Corner as a scaffold and physical space in which they can practice these strategies.
My students are eager to learn and love to show others what they have learned by teaching them. They take pride in their work and their learning space by taking care of it and being a community of helpers.
