Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am asking for math manipulatives for my students. I would like to equip my students for success this upcoming school year. Last year, we didn't have many manipulatives to use for math or the classroom really. I would create, laminate, and cut my own manipulatives for my students. By 4th grade, we focus a ton on fractions, decimals, and multi-digit multiplication and division. Manipulatives are crucial for student engagement as well as retention.
I am also asking for art supplies because I believe that art education is important for development.
One 40 minute art class a week is not enough for children to foster creativity, critical thinking, and social-emotional skills.
As for the board games, I really want to give my students options during indoor recess that does not include online activities. I think back at my own elementary school, my favorite thing to do during rainy weather was playing board games with my friends.
Being a Title 1 school, we have one working (sometimes) microwave and refrigerator. Sometimes my students earn a popcorn or ice-cream party and most of the time, the microwave isn't working. Therefore, I am also asking for a small working microwave and mini fridge.
