My Students

I am an EC teacher who works at a high risk Project Lift School that has mostly minorities and ESL (English as a second language) students. My school is a PreK - 8th grade school in an urban area of North Carolina and nearly all of our students are living in poverty. I work with a selection of First grade and Middle School Special Education students in Science, Social Studies and Reading. Many of my students are below grade level readers and ESL students who have physical and cognitive disability difficulties learning complex material, vocabulary, fluency, sight word recognition, reading issues and many other learning issues. The students I work with are trying to succeed while coping with a variety of learning, speech, physical and cognitive disabilities. My students are all working at different levels when it comes to reading and comprehension. Despite all these challenges, they are here every day and working hard to be the best that they can be!

Over half of my Pre-K through 8th grade students are below grade level readers but still put in the work to try and keep up with their leveled peers.

My students are all on different academic levels and have physical and cognitive disability difficulties learning complex material, vocabulary, fluency, sight word recognition, reading issues and many other learning issues. The students I work with are trying to succeed while coping with these issues. They are trying to catch up with the other students their age and grade level while also trying not to fall further behind.

My Project

As the school year comes to an end, I would like to send my students off with a bang. I want to give them something so they can remember how great their school year was and how great their school and teachers were. Every year at the end of the school year we have a school wide Field Day. It's filled with fun, games, competition and school spirit. The materials I'm requesting are for my classroom on Field Day. The materials will be used to make Field Day fun and safety bags with snacks for the students. These bags will be given to the students on field day to help them not only have fun, but also stay safe. Since field day will be in June we all know that it will be very hot outside. The students will be running around playing and competing in the heat. I would like to make field day bags for the students with things that will help them stay safe and get through field day. I would like to make bags for my first grade group and my middle school group. For 1st grade each bag will contain- 1 bottles of Nestle Pure 8oz drinking water, 1 Kool Aid Jammers juice, 2 package of Welch’s fruit snack, 1 container of Pringles chips, 1 Printable sun visor (designable so the students can design visors with their name), 1 package of sidewalk chalk for fun during field day, 1 package of Nabisco cookies, 1 bag to put all of the supplies in, 1 mini book to write about what they did at field day, how much fun they had at field day and use the mini book as an activity book during and after field day. I am also requesting Banana Boat spray on sunscreen to spray on students to help prevent sunburn related injuries. For middle school group each bag will contain-2 bottles of Nestle Pure 8oz drinking water, 2 package of Welch’s fruit snack, 1 container of Pringle chips, 1 Printable sun visor (designable so the students can design with their name), 1 tube of M&M candy, 1 package of Nabisco cookies, 1 cooler bag to keep drinks and food cool, 1 bag to put all supplies in. I am also requesting spray on Banana Boat sunscreen to spray on students to help prevent sunburn related injuries.

This will be a great way for the students to end the school year.

While the students are outside having fun and playing games, i can rest assure that the students are ok in the heat. With these bags the students will stay hydrated, which is one of the most important things to remember when playing outside in the heat. With the sunscreen and sun visors the students skin and eyes will be taken care of. This will cut back on sunburn related injuries allowing the students to continue in their field day fun. The snack will ensure the students keep energized and will help them compete and win the field day games. This will be a great way to end the school year and a great gift for the students.
