My students need tools to develop their creativity, collaborative skills, critical thinking, and communications skills. WE need Brainpop, paper, pencils and much more.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students that I serve are inquisitive, interested, and needy for information. Being in an underserved community, they are no afforded the opportunities that most students have to have a wealth of resources such as technology at home and in the classroom.
Our school community is small and close knit.
Outside of our school community, there is poverty, single parent or grandparent households, and crime. Our school serves more than for education but for life skills to allow them to compete in a global market
My Project
This year has been a learning process not only for my students but for me. I have learned that given the right tools and resources, my students will rise to the expectations. I have slowly integrated different technology into lessons which has allowed my students to demonstrate their learning in a more accessible manner. My goal with the adding more IPAD tablets and chromebooks, I can have enough for all my students/ groups especially in my larger classes. In addition, having a secure place to put away the technology products would help me preserve them for a longer time.
My population of students have not always found success daily in the classroom.
The majority is in the lower stanine for reading and math, so allowing them to have success markers and learn in the way that are bet suited to them will help them to develop a growth mindset and motivate them This is where the 4Cs come into play: Creativity, Collaboration, Critical Thinking, and Communication. By focusing on these skills will help prepare my students for the short term and long term. Being able to structure my lessons and classroom with the 4Cs in the center will help to continue to foster learning.
4Cs will be fostered through the use of programs such as PiCollage, Thinglink and with interactive notebooks they will develop with the use of journals, colored paper, markers, highlighters. Groups are an essentially part of any Reading classroom because the students are each others support. These resources will allow them to collaborate, create as part of their learning, think questions through and demonstrate through writing their understanding.
More than half of students from low‑income households
