Help me give my students a class set (25) of Wordly Wise 3000 student workbooks, a cutting-edge vocabulary instruction program that helps build the ciritcal link between vocabulary and reading comprehension.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach a heterogeneous general-education class of third-grade learners in a South Florida public school. Some students are high-academic achievers, while others require additional instructional support in reading foundations. Students are mainly of hispanic origin and their families hail from Carribbean, Central American, and South American countries. In fact, many students learned English as a second language.
My students are eager to learn, kind, and very special little people.
What I love most about my students is their positive attitude toward school and learning. They understand that they need to put in hard work to show positive results. However, vocabulary instruction is the area that almost all students showed was an area for growth, according to their mid-year iReady diagnostic taken in December 2019.
My Project
Our students are currently using the free trial period for Wordly Wise 3000 online and are loving it! I don't want to stop their engagement, but unfortunately our free trial ends January 31, 2020.
I have never seen a group of students more excited to learn new vocabulary words in all my years of teaching!
It is so refreshing! Help me keep the momentum going in building their vocabulary, helping them make connections between words and word parts, word endings, tenses, and parts of speech.
Florida third-graders have an important high-stakes test coming up in less than 3 months, the English Language Arts Florida Standards Assessment. This program would unequivocally help keep their spirits high throughout test prep season, and their scores higher at the end of it.
