This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I love teaching literacy and fostering a love of reading books with my 3rd graders. Each year, I take time to incorporate diversity into the titles I read and my classroom library. I always strive to foster diverse cultures and traditions within my classroom and school. Every year is a unique challenge to make the classroom literacy rich and to make learning as engaging as possible. My students are active, engaged kinesthetic learners. Students learn best when they are able to explore and make connections to the books they read. Year after year, students love listening to the texts I read aloud whether if be fiction, non-fiction or poetry, but that fact remains that if the students feel represented, the texts will resonate with them and they will be on their way to becoming strong, life long readers. I want to push my students to choose great, diverse books each year. Help me help my 3rd graders connect to the books we read and make reading come alive!
My Project
The books included in this project will help me teach my students third grade literacy standards using diverse book titles and fun read alouds. My hope is that these new texts will spark their interest and will help diversify our current classroom library. These texts will assist in teaching "Rooted in Reading," which will aid in building comprehension, literacy skills and a love of reading. The books included are crucial for the upcoming school year and will benefit my incoming class, as I don't have all of these titles yet.
