My students need Rocks & Soil Activity Tub for hands on activities and explorations to help them learn about the world around us. These materials will help them to develop critical thinking skills.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember what it was like to do a scientific investigation and learn about the world around you? My students need supplies to help them explore the rocks and soil that make up our planet. These materials will help them think creatively and develop their scientific process.
My students are 3rd graders at a high poverty school in Arizona.
The state of Arizona doesn't give schools much funding, and our budgets are always being cut. Despite this fact, the students and teachers at this school do what they can to support each other so that the students have a chance to succeed. While this community does not have much, I have watched as the school and students pulled together to organize food and blanket drives to help the homeless, sponsored each other with the Christmas Angel project and continuously looked out for one another.
My Project
My students will use the samples, activity cards and the scientific method to investigate the world around them. They will be able to compare and contrast, examine closely and determine the materials that make up the world that we live in. They will be able to see and feel some of the items that form the planet.
This project is so important, because we need to teach children to think critically and scientifically.
They have to question the world around them in order to make a difference and find solutions to the problems that plague our planet. Students need to understand the impact that small things such as rocks and soil have on the big picture, and what they can do to help preserve our planet.
