Our elementary school is located in an urban school district. Many of my students come from low-income households and 100% of them are eligible to free lunch, breakfast, and a snack. Our students come from a variety of cultural backgrounds with a high population of ESL students.
My third grade students love to read.
Our ability levels range and so do our interests. We would like to build a library that is inclusive of all our ability levels, interests, and social emotional needs.
My Project
My third graders look forward to learning in interactive and engaging centers. The play money allows students to learn exactly what each looks like and use them to make spend and make change. Flash cards allow for repetitive practice and the games allow for real world experience using money. They all also help my students learn in a fun and engaging way. Students can work together in whole group, small group, with partners, or on their own to build skills in counting money and completing monetary based word problems.
Building on our money unit will allow students to participate in centers about money all year long.
Reinforcing the math curriculum helps student to grow their understanding and make the lesson come alive and a real world experience.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
