3rd Grade Field Trip: The Tillicum School Program

Help me give my students charter bus transportation to the Tillicum School Program. This field trip is crafted specifically for students studying Washington State history and Northwest Native American culture.

My Students

My elementary school serves 1st-3rd graders. A huge passion of mine has always been around classroom climate.

I train and expect my students to be independent, hard-working, and cooperative learners focused on setting and reaching their own individual goals.

I offer a variety of seating options including: ergonomic stools, exercise balls, traditional chairs and cushioned benches to sit on every day.

I opt to not use overhead fluorescent lighting. Instead I have provided over 30 lamps throughout the classroom to foster a more relaxing environment for learning.

We listen to instrumental music during our independent work times in the background.

My students know they are safe, loved, and valued. We are family.

My Project

All of the 3rd graders at my school are looking forward to a one-of-a-kind cultural Native American educational experience on a unique field trip this spring!

The Tillicum School Program is crafted specifically for students studying Washington State history and Northwest Native American culture.

Our students will depart Pier 54 in Seattle, Washington on a 45-minute cruise to Blake Island, during which there are two interactive presentations on Northwest Native American storytelling and crafts. Once on the island, students head into the Tillicum Longhouse to enjoy a lunch designed just for them, including fresh fruit, homemade macaroni and cheese, our traditionally-prepared alder fire roasted fish, and more.

After the buffet-style meal, the dining room lights dim and the stage performance begins — live dancers and 3D projection technology combine for a dramatic storytelling presentation.

On the return trip, everyone has some time to roam the boat and take in the beauty of Puget Sound before returning to Pier 54 on Seattle’s central waterfront.

In this Donors Choose project, we are requesting the funds needed for the charter buses to transport our students, teachers, para-educators and parent chaperones on this incredibly memorable field trip experience.
