My Students
My third graders are lively, inquisitive and so much fun. This is the age when they are capable of making huge cognitive leaps. They are able to process information and synthesize knowledge in brand new ways.
It is a wonder to nurture and teach them, and watch them grow and develop throughout the year.
This is the age when they begin to focus less on themselves and show more concern for others. There is a rapid development of their mental skills, and they will also learn better ways to describe experiences and talk about thoughts and feelings. I just met my new class of 3rd graders a week ago, and I look forward to getting know each one of them as an individual.
My Project
Making gingerbread houses is a highlight of our holiday season. Every year, my students look forward to this fun activity. I usually ask students to bring in some candy for decorations and I buy the rest myself since some families are not able to contribute, but I want every student to participate. They are always so proud of their creations.
My students will incorporate engineering and math skills, as well as their artistic abilities in building their gingerbread houses.
The materials requested in this project will allow every student in both our 3rd grade classes to have their own set of building materials. I will load up the frosting into the squeeze bottles and they will be able to use it to glue together pieces of graham cracker to create the walls and roofs of their houses. They will then use the assortment of candy to decorate their gingerbread houses. Of course I will remind them not to eat their masterpieces until they bring them home to share with their families. Thank you for considering our project.
